Rouhani to run for second presidential term

TEHRAN – President Hassan Rouhani will run for a second presidential term in the upcoming election, a senior advisor to Rouhani has said.

Akbar Torkan made the announcement during an interview with the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting on Friday.

The next presidential election is scheduled for May 19.

The presidential term in Iran is four years and under the law the president can’t run for a third consecutive term.
